Wismer's in the USA with Dutch roots in their family

 

 

 A lot of people from the Netherlands emigrated to the USA (and Canada and a few Australian), also Wiersum's. Nowadays many people are interested in their roots. A lot of Wiersema's / Wiersum's married a husband or wife with roots in the Netherlands and sometimes in Germany. 

 

Cornelis Wiersema emigrated in 1853 together with his parents Jan Ejes Wiersema and Frouwke Boelens, and his sister Hilje (Hilda, Celia) and his brother Egge (Oscar) to Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, USA. They were so poor in the Netherlands that they emigrated to the USA for a better life. In the USA, Jan Ejes Wiersema and Frouwke Boelens had 6 more children, of whom Klaas died young (at the age of 4). The children's surname became corrupted to Wismer in the USA. Two children (Gradie en Jennie) of Jan Wismer and Janna Hilbelink continued to live with the surname Wiersma. I have indicated Wiersma in the overview below.
