Passed away at Oregon Manor in Oregon, Wis. Edna was born in Holland, Nebraska, to Harry and Bertha (Tenhulzen) Wismer. She and her brother were raised on a farm homesteaded by their grandparents. She described her childhood as lots of fun with 10 of her cousins living nearby. She married Arnold Bouma on October 8, 1937 and they farmed in the Holland area for 40 years. Together they raised three daughters. Edna wanted a college education for them, which led her to a 25 year career managing the Jane Walt Gift Shop in downtown Lincoln. She loved her work with beautiful things and interesting people. She described that chapter of her life as a very busy, but happy time. She retired when Arnold became ill and she became his caretaker.
From an early age, music and church work were very important to her. She directed youth and adult church choirs most of her life. She taught Sunday School classes, and led women's groups until a few years ago. Her unwavering faith sustained her throughout her life, especially during the prolonged illness and early death of her youngest daughter, Beth, in 1972.
After Arnold's death 28 years ago, Edna made her home in Lincoln pursuing a very active life. She always enjoyed entertaining, cooking, decorating, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and helping people. Her yearly vacations in Colorado with family and friends were a favorite memory, and in retirement, she traveled to many other parts of the U.S. as well as to numerous foreign countries and continents. She was always ready to pack her bags and go. At the age of 85, she moved to Madison, Wis. to be near her daughter's family. She enjoyed living in Fitchburg initially, then Oakwood Village West for several years, and most recently at Oregon Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Glen Wismer and wife Thelma, daughter, Beth Leuders, grandson-in-law, Stephen Burmeister-May, nephew, Marlin Wismer, and many other relatives and friends.

12 Derk (Richard) LIESVELD, geboren op 01-12-1820 te Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands, overleden op 21-08-1875 te Mills, Iowa, USA op 54-jarige leeftijd, begraven te Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA. Bio: The family landed in New York city in May/June 1847 and were early members of the Dutch "second wave" of immigrants. He started working almost immediately in a lumberyard and sawmill on the Hudson river.
They relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan and remained there a short while. Their next move was to Zealand, Michigan where Dirk opened a shoe shop and operated it for nine months with continued success as a boot and shoemaker.
The family then moved to Fulton, Illinois where he engaged in the dairy business for nine months.
The next move was to Rockville, Wisconsin were he practiced the shoemaker trade combined with farming and was sufficiently prosperous to hold the family in Wisconsin for a period of 10 years.
They then moved made to Chenoa, Illinois and he was engaged as a nurseryman and purchased an interest in the business of M. T. Scott which he held for four years.
They then made his final move to a farm about seven miles south of Hasting, Mills County, Iowa where he was in charge of a large stock farm for Mr. Scott.
Derk Liesveld was never permitted to enter the "Canaan of the west" for as arrangements were being made to that end, he was called from the properties of earth and entered the land of the silent spirit. He was 55 years of age at the time of his death on August 21, 1875. Prior to his death he purchased 200 acres of land in South Pass precinct, Lancaster County near Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska
After Derk's death in Hastings, Iowa, Martina relocated to that farm near Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska in the spring of 1879 following their oldest son, Herman, who had moved to Nebraska. Derk and Martina were the parents of seven children. Herman J. was born in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The remaining six children; Johanna, Frank, Mary Thomas, Sarah and Samuel were born in America.
