They had four children, Lavina, Verle, Verne, and Lois, during their marriage. She died on July 26, 1965, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the age of 73. He was born in October 1849 as Kornelis Maastricht (which is the name of a city in the extreme southeastern part of the Netherlands, capital of the province Limburg) in the country village of Zuid-Beijerland, located on the northside of the Haringvliet, a broad arm of the Maas River, in the southwestern part of the Dutch southwestern province Zuid-Holland, the first of two children of Gijsbert Maastricht (25 years old, laborer) and Jannigje Klootwijk, who married on October 27, 1848 in the country village of Goudswaard, located about 5 miles northwest of Zuid-Beijerland, province Zuid-Holland, the Netherlands. On 10 April 1851 his sister Trijntje Maastrigt, named after her paternal grandmother Trijntje Vos, was born in Goudswaard, but she died already on November 14, 1851, in Zuid-Beijerland.

On August 16, 1851 his father Gijsbert Maastrigt, laborer, son of Cornelis Maastrigt and Trijntje Tros, died at the age of 27 years in Zuid-Beijerland, house number 86, Zuid-Holland, Nederland. Source: scan of his death certificate (overlijdensakte).

With the death of her husband and youngest child Trijntje his mother Jannigje Klootwijk was left with Kornelis and an older child, Neeltje Klootwijk, born on September 26, 1845 at Zuid-Beijerland too, from a relation with an unknown father. Neeltje was not acknowledged by Cornelis Maastrigt as his child, so she kept mother's last name, Klootwijk.

Jannigje had an older brother Kornelis Klootwijk, born November 25, 1816, who married Lena Bezemer on May 9, 1845 in Strijen, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands. They had 6 children of which 5 died within half a year. They had only Pieter left, born June 9, 1847 at Strijen, province Zuid-Holland, Nederland. They and Jannigje decided to emigrate to the US together with their 3 children.

On July 4, 1855 Cornelis Klootwijk (38, peddler), his wife Lena (38), their son Peter (6),[his sister] Jannickje Klootwijk (36) and her children Neeltje (7) and Cornelis Klootwijk (5, whose legal last name was actually Maastricht and not Klootwijk) arrived on the ship Mississippi, which departed from Rotterdam, Nederland at the port of New York. Wikipedia: when Jacob Munster, a young man from the Netherlands, who until the 1860s spelled his surname "Monster", opened an area General Store complete with an U.S. postal station on the back. The local farmers and settlers came to rely on the postal station, which soon became an United States Post Office. The post office was named Munster, as it was located in Jacob Munster's general store.

In 1860 Cornlias Klootwyke (11 y, born in Holland) and his half-sister Nellie (15, Holland) were living with their uncle C. Klootwyke (43, Holland), his wife Lana (43, Holland) and their son Peter (12, Holland) in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Chicago, Illinois.
It's striking that Cornelius' mother Jannigje (Klootwijk) wasn't mentioned in this Census 1860; she probably had died meanwhile.

His half-sister Neeltje aka Nellie Klootwyk, Find A Grave Memorial #84037444, married T(e)unis Arie Benschop and had about 10 children.

In August 1870 Cornelius Vanstray (20 y, born in Holland, Com[munity or Common?] laborer) was living in Thornton Township, just south of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at the home of Simon Suriton [Scouten?] (49, Holland, Com[munity or Common?] laborer) and Mary Sureton [Scouten?] (53, Holland).

On 14 March 1874 Cornelius Vanstrigt married in Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, about 25 miles southeast of Chicago, Illinois, to the 5 years younger Gertie Cyp, who had Dutch parents too.
They had 12 children, of whom 3 died before June 1900.

In 1880 Cornelius Vanstraigul (30 y, born in the Netherlands, farmer), his wife Gerta (25, Netherlands) and their daughter Jennie (5, Indiana) were living in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

On 20 January 1882 they had in Munster, Lake County, Indiana son Gilbert and in 1890 in Highland, also in Lake County, Indiana, son Tunis.

Cornelius and Gertie had a farm in Highland, Lake County, Indiana, where almost all the children were born.

In 1897 Cornelius Van Strigt died at the age of about 47 years in Munster, Lake County, Indiana.

In June 1900 his widow Gertie Van Strigt (46, born in February 1854 in Holland, Netherlands, immigrated in 1859 [wrong; should be after April 1863], mother of 3 deceased and 9 living children, farmer), her children Dick (20, 1880, Indiana, farm laborer), Bert (17, January 1883, Indiana, farm laborer), Lena (15, September 1885, Indiana), Gertie ((12, May 1888, Indiana), Tommy (10, January 1890 Indiana), Nellie (9, February 1891, Indiana), Mary (7, February 1893, Indiana) and Peter (4, June 1896, Indiana) were living at their own farm in Calumet Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, likely southwest of the steel city of Gary.

His widow Gertie died in December 1902 at the age of 48 years, very probably in Calumet Township, located southwest of Gary, Lake County, Indiana. Zoon van Gijsbert MAASTRIGT (zie 8) en Jannigje KLOOTWIJK (zie 9).

Zijpe was the name of a Harenkarspel neighbouring municipality, from which Geertje's surname Zijp derived very probably.

Geertje Zijp emigrated after April 1863 with her family to the USA.

In 1870 her father Derrick Seip (39 y, born in Holland), her mother Gusty [!] (41, Holland), her siblings John (14, Holland), Peter (13, Holland), Dick (10, Holland) and Jane (6, Holland) were living in Illinois, very probably in or just south of Chicago, Cook County.
The 16 years aged Geertje (Gertie) is missing; it's quite likely that she meanwhile worked and lived as servant maid with another family outside her parental home.

On 14 March 1874 Gertie Cyp married in Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, about 25 miles southeast of Chicago, to the 5 years older Cornelius Vanstrigt, who had Dutch parents too. They had 12 children, of whom 3 died before June 1900.

In 1880 Gerta (25 y, born in the Netherlands), her husband Cornelius Vanstraigul (30, Netherlands, farmer) and their daughter Jennie (5, Indiana) were living in North Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana.

On 20 January 1882 they had in Munster, Lake County, Indiana son Gilbert and in 1890 in Highland, Lake County, Indiana son Tunis Van Stright

Her husband Cornelius Van Strigt died in 1897 at the age of about 47 years in the -future- town of Munster, Lake County, Indiana.

In June 1900 Gertie Van Strigt (46, born in February 1854 in Holland, Netherlands, immigrated in 1859 [wrong; has to be after April 1863], widow, mother of 3 deceased and 9 living children, farmer), her children Dick (20, 1880, Indiana, farm laborer), Bert (17, January 1883, Indiana, farm laborer), Lena (15, September 1885, Indiana), Gertie (12, May 1888, Indiana), Tommy (10, January 1890 Indiana), Nellie (9, February 1891, Indiana), Mary (7, February 1893, Indiana) and Peter (4, June 1896, Indiana) were living at their own farm in Calumet Township, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, likely southwest of steel city of Gary.

On 27 Nov 1901 Gertie married Edward Pruim in Lake County, IN.
