On November 21, 1906 John Wiersema married in Chicago at the age of 24 years the five years younger Rose Hoekstra, who was also born in the northern part of the Netherlands.

He was of medium build and height, had dark brown hair and blue eyes.

In January 1920 John Wiersema (37, truck farmer), his wife Rose (31), their children Richard (12), Johana (10), Siert (8), Theodore (6) and Gilbert (1) were living on their own farm at Kedzie Avenue, Worth Township, located immediately southwest of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In April 1930 John Wierseman (46, truck farmer), his wife Rose (41), their children Josehanna (20, clerk at a butcher shop), Sidsy (18, vegetable farmer at home farm), Theodore (17), Gilbert (11) and Roseaha (2, Illinois) were living on a rented farm at 9543 Kedzie Avenue in the village of Evergreen Park, a southwestern suburb of Chicago, Worth Township, Cook County, Illinois. At the same address his son Richard Wiersema (43, widower, vegetable farmer) was living on his own farm, worth $12000, with his eight children.

In 1942 the 59 years old farmer John Wiersema was living with his wife Rose at 9641 Kedzie Avenue in Evergreen Park, Cook County, Illinois, when he was administrated on a WW II Draft Registration Card.

In November 1952 his wife Rose died at the age of 64 years at 9641 Kedzie Avenue in the village of Green Park, Cook County, Illinois. John Wiersema died there probably too, in August 1962, at the age of 73 years. {He is later married at the age of 70 on 15-10-1953 in Evergreen Park, Cook County, Illinois, USA.}

2 Dirk (Richard) Lolles HOEKSTRA, born on 04-05-1851 in Oostdongeradeel, Friesland, died on 27-08-1934 in Cook County, Illinois, USA at the age of 83, buried in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA. Dirk Hoekstra was born in May 1851 in the country village Ee, located on the banks of the small Ee River, in the former -until 1984- municipality Oostdongeradeel, in the northeastern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, son of the 36 years old laborer Lolle Theunis Hoekstra and Rixtje Taekes Hofman.

Farm hand Dirk Hoekstra had to serve for five years in the Dutch army, 3rd Regiment Infantry, from 8 May 1871 until 7 may 1876. On Friday 12 May 1876 farm hand Dirk Hoekstra, living in his birthlace Ee, married in the country village of Metslawier, seat of the former municipality Oostdongeradeel at the age of 25 years to the five years younger Saakje van der Zwaan, born and living in the small country village of Aalsum in municipality Oostdongeradeel, daughter of truck farmer (gardenier) Tiete Gerbens van der Zwaan and Trijntje Doedes Pautsma.

They had in Aalsum the following children Hoekstra:

On 20 April 1889 Dirks Hoekstra (32), his wife Sartje (32), their children Tietje (11), Lale (10), Rijntje (9), Teunis (7), Doede (4), Ritske (2) and Richtje (age not mentioned) arrived on the ship P. Caland at the port of New York, Castle Garden. Very probably Richtje (female, age unknown) is the same person as Ritske (2), so based on an administrative error.

In June 1900 Dirk Hoekstra (49 y, born in May 1851 in Holland, immigrated in 1889, truck farmer), his wife Soakje (46, October 1854, Holland, immigrated in 1889, mother of 2 deceased and 9 living children), their children Louis (22, November 1878, Holland, immigrated in 1889, farm laborer), Thomas (18, January 1882, Holland, immigrated in 1889, farm laborer), Henry (17, September 1883, Holland, immigrated in 1889, farm laborer), Frederick (14, May 1886, Holland, immigrated in 1889, farm laborer), Rosie (12, September 1888, Holland, immigrated in 1889), Jacob (7, July 1893, Illinois), Andrew (4, July 1896, Illinois), Katie Wheeler (20, February 1880, Holland, immigrated in 1889) and granddaughter Fanny Wheeler (1, October 1899, Illinois) were living at a rented farm at 10600 Staten Street, Calumet Township, Ward 34 of [south] Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1920 Dick Hookstra (68, immigrated 1889) and his wife Sarah (65, immigrated in 1889) were living at their own home in Ward 9 of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1930 Dick Hoekstra (79, widower) was living in Worth [Township], just southwest of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at the home of his son Andrew (33), his daughter-in-law Kate (33, Illinois) and his cousins Eleanor Hoekstra (11, Illinois) and Cecelia Hoekstra (6, Illinois).

4440 Garbrand WEERSUMA, born circa 1510. Tekst op zijn grafzerk (GDW 438):" Ao 1570, 3 DAGE VOER JACOBY, STARFGERB RANT WEERSEMA". Op die zerk is huismerk no. 53 vermeld. Later verschijnt het wapen met de pelikaan en drie jongen. Tevens wordt nog vermeld op 14 april 1549: Garbranth Wyrsma, die met enkele anderen,voornamelijk ingezetenen van Vredewolt, o.a. Tolbert en Midwolde, afstand doet van zijn aandeel in het kerkgestoelte in het koor tennoorden van het hoogaltaar in de kerk van Tolbert, Garbranth Wyrsma woonde in 1549 volgens het regest op "Hoyeke Volkerts-heerd". (ArchiefLewe, regest 104) De "Haye Volkers Heertt" wordt in 1540 genoemd in het schatregister voor de jaartax, waarin opgenoemen heel Vredewolt. De heerd is gelegen te Niebert (Nybert), is groot 15 roeden en wordt in1540 gebruikt door Coep, (Coop dus voor Jakob). De naam Garbrant of Wiersuma komt in de schatting voor de jaartax te Niebert niet voor. (Ommelander Archief, inventarisnr. 39)

NB: volgens GDW [438] is Gerbrant Weersema in 1570 overleden. Mogelijk woont zijn weduwe dan nog op de boerderij, de weduwe overleed waarschijnlijk in 1579 (GDW [439]).
Dat de weduwe achter was met betalen is niet zo vreemd: het is het begin van de 80-jarige oorlog en zowel de spaanse, koningsgezinde, katholieke stadse troepen als de staatse, prinsgezinde, protestantse ommelander troepen ("geuzen"), waren regelmatig rondom Aduard aan het belastingheffen, plunderen en brandschatten vanwege de oorlogskosten.
