Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Bosma Funeral Home, Fulton, with the Rev. Harold Ringenoldus officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday evening (tonight).

Jennie Achterhof was born in Ulrum, Netherlands, February 2, 1886, the daughter of Ryke and Grietje Japenga Achterhof.

She married Albert Wiersema, February 1907. He died in 1943.

She married J. E. Temple, Clinton, Iowa in 1949. He died in 1963.

Mrs. Temple was a charter member of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton; the Ladies Aid; Missionary Society; Gold Star Mother; American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors are one daugher, Mrs. Lorraine Cady, Clinton, Iowa; three step-daughters, two stepsons and two grandchildren.

She was preceded by two sons, Allen Wiersema, killed in WWII, John Albert; two sisters, two half brothers, five stepsisters. Daughter of Rijke ACHTERHOF (see also 2) and Grietje JAPENGA (see also 3).
Married (1) 02-1907 in USA to Albert (Earl) WIERSEMA, born on 13-06-1881 in Warfhuizen, De Marne, Groningen, Netherlands, died on 23-12-1943 in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, USA at the age of 62, buried in Fulton, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA. Albert J. Wiersema, a resident of Fulton for the past sixty-two years, passed away at the Jane Lamb Hospital at 10:30 Thursday morning. He had been n failing health for the past six years and on December 12 was removed to Jane Lamb Hospital for treatment. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the home and 2 o'clock in the Second Reformed Church with the Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. The remains will repose in the Sikkema Funeral Home until Sunday morning when they will be removed to the home on Twelfth Avenue.

Albert J. Wiersema was bon on June 13, 1881, in the Netherlands, the son of John and Catherine Stuit Wiersema. When three years old, he came to Fulton with his parents and this community has been his home ever since. He attended the schools in the vicinity. For many years he operated a greenhouse, retiring when his health failed. Since 1926, the family has resided at 801 Twelfth Avenue, in the home which they built.

He is survived by his widow , one daughter, Mrs. Forrest (Lorraine) Cady of Clinton, one son, Lt. J. Allen Wiersema, somewhere in England, two step-granddaughters, Leatrice and Elaine Cady of Clinton. The following sisters and brothers also mourn his passing; Mrs. J. J. (Kate) Sikkema, Mrs. Auke (Effie) Smit, of Fulton, Mrs. H. (Grace) Zuidema of Morrison, Mrs. Dick (Etta) Borgman of Newton, Clarence and Louis Wiersema of Morrison, John, Peter, Burnie and Elmer Wiersema of Fulon and Major Henry Wiersema of Battle Creek, Michigan. He was preceded in death by one sonm John Albert, who died in 1919, his parents and one sister, Mrs. Henry (Lutie) Kamphuis.

Funeral services for the late Albert Wiersema were held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the family home on Twelfth Avenue and two o'clock in the Second Reformed Church, with the Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven officiating. During the services, Mr. and Mrs. Mino Flikkema sang, "Moment by Moment" and "In the Garden", with Mrs. Clarence Balk playing their accompaniments. Pallbearers were all owners of greenhouses in Fulton, and industry Mr. Wiersema followed until illness forced him to retire. They were John Dykema, Harold Sikkema, John Aggen, Elmer Van Dellen, Cornell Moldermaker, and George Moldermaker. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Alvin Poel and Mrs. Harry Kolk.

2 Rijke ACHTERHOF, born on 26-06-1853 in Ulrum, died on 28-09-1886 in Groningen at the age of 33. Jacob Achterhof Passes At Morrison Thursday; Final Rites Saturday

Jacob Achterhof, 60, of 209 West Park Street, Morrison passed away at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Morrison hospital following an illness of five days. He entered the hospital for treatment Monday evening.

Prayer services will be held at the Reynolds Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Saturday ad final rites will be conducted at the Ebenezer Reformed Church at 2 p.m. The Rev, Harry L. Bower, pastor will officiate. Committal will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Achterhof was born in the Netherlands February 25, 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Achterhof. He was reared and educated in Fulton and had been a resident of Morrison for 34 years. He married Harriett Ostema at Morrison August 1, 1910. He had recently been employed as an operator at the Green River Ordnance Plant. He was a member of the Ebenezer Church.

Surviving are three daughters and three sons, Mrs. George (Jeanette) Lartz, Savanna, Mrs. Ted (Eloise) Salminen of Minnesota, Phyllis at home. Raymond of Cambridge, Marvin J., U. S. Navy in southwest Pacific and Bernard, U. S. Army in the European area. There is one grandson, Gil Raymond Achterhof of Savanna.

Funeral Rites Saturday For Jacob Achterhof

Funeral services for Jacob Achterhof, who died Thursday morning at the Morrison Hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Reynolds Funeral Home and at 2 at the Ebenezer Reformed Church with the Rev. Harry L. Brower officiating. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery. Appropriate selections were sung by Mrs. Everett Renkes and Mrs. George Huizenga. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. John Buikema and Miss Janet Grierson.

Pallbearers were Burnie Vos, Harry Dykema, Claus Vogel, Ray Engelkens, Gall Decker and Jacob Temple. Son of Jan Weites ACHTERHOF (see also 4) and Aaltje Rijkes ZIJLEMA (see also 5).

3 Grietje JAPENGA, born on 25-05-1854 in Schouwerzijl, Groningen, Netherlands, died on 20-11-1943 in Fulton, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA at the age of 89. Grace Japenga was born May 25, 1854, in The Netherlands, the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Kamphuis Japenga, and passed away Saturday, November 20th 1943. At the time of her passing she had attained the age of eighty nine years, five months and twenty six days.

In 1875, she was married to Ray Achterhoff and to this union five children were born, one passing away in infancy. Mr. Achterhoff passed away in 1886, and in 1895 accompanied by her four children and her father, she came to this country to make her home. They located in this community, and on April 27, 1895, she was married to Johannes H. Smith, the ceremony taking place in Fulton. Two daughters were born to this union. Mr. Smith passed away on April 21, 1940, and for the past three years Mrs. Smith made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Albert Van Vuren, in East Clinton.

She is survived by the one son, Jake Achterhoff of Morrison, and five daughters, Mrs. Martin M. (Elizabeth) Bielema, Mrs. Ed (Alice) Engelkens, Mrs. Albert (Jennie) Wiersema, Mrs. Albert (Grace) Van Vuren and Mrs. Albert (Josephine) Post, all of this community. There are also five step-daughters, Mrs. Alice Wierenga of Morrison, Mrs. Louis (Nell) Kamphuis, Mrs. Charles (Kate) Ottens, Mrs. A. C. (Stella) Arnheim, and Mrs. S. H. (Gertie) Poel of Fulton; thirty-two grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren; and one sister Mrs. Agnes Dykhuizen of Morrison, to mourn her passing.

Fulton, Illinois, November 23 - Special - Funeral services for Mrs. Joe Smith were held today at 1:40 o'clock in the Sikkema Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. in the First Reformed Church with Dr. W. H. Funeral services for the late J. H. Smith were held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the family home on Sixteenth Avenue and at two o'clock in the First Reformed Church with Dr. W. H. Vandermeer officiating. During the services the congregation sang the first verse of Psalms No. 116 and Mrs. Alfred Kettler sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "The Eastern Gates", with Mrs. Raymond Rus playing the accompaniments.

Pallbearers were Dewey Brondyke, George Ottens, Claus Bruins, Harry Kopenga, William Sikkema and Ed Huizenga. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Ben Bielema. Interment was in the Fulton City Cemetery.

Johannes H. Smith was born March 20, 1852, in the Province of Groenegin, The Netherlands, the son of Henry and Alice DeGroot Smith. He passed away shortly after the noon hour Sunday, April 21, at the age of eighty eight years, one month and one day. His death followed a brief illness.

In 1876, he was married to Bena Barsema, the ceremony taking place in their native country. To this union five children were born, who now survive. They are Mrs. Alice Wierenga of Morrison, Mrs. Louis (Nellie) Kamphuis, Mrs. Kate Kettler, Mrs. A. C. (Stella) Arnheim and Mrs. S. H. (Gertie) Poel of this city.

Mrs. Smith passed away in 1888 and on April 27, 1895, Mr. Smith married Mrs. Grace Japenga Achterhoff, the ceremony taking place in Fulton. To them two daughters were born, namely Mrs. Albert (Grace) Van Vuren and Mrs. Albert (Josephine) Post, both of Fulton.

Besides his widow and his children, he is survived by four stepchildren, Mrs. Martin M. Bielema, Mrs. Ed Engelkins, Mrs. Albert Wiersema of Fulton and Jacob Achterhof of Morrion. There are also thirty two grandchildren and twenty eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one sister Tena, two brothers, Emkent and Peter.
