Jeanetta was the daughter of Arie Kreykes and Mattie (Rietsma) Kreykes. As a child, her family lived at Boyden, Hospers, and Orange City.

On April 7, 1936, she married Elmer Wiersema at Orange City. They farmed at Middleburg, Sioux Center, and Orange City. In 1968, they moved into Orange City. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she had belonged to the Lydia Circle and in earlier years had served as a Sunday School teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Wiersema were faithful visitors of the church's "shut-ins". Survivors include her husband; son, Ivan and his wife, Darlene, of Cherokee; daughter, Mary and her husband, Dale Wurpts, of Orange City; son-in-law, Larry Heemstra and his wife, Lois, of Primghar; eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, a great-grandson; and two sisters and a brother, Hattie Woudstra, Joe Kreykes, and Stella Verbrugge, all of Orange City.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joann Heemstra; and brothers, William and John Kreykes and a brother in infancy.

Elmer Wiersema, age 87, of Orange City, died Sunday, September 8, 2002, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 12, at 2:00 pm, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen and the Rev. Cecil Martens will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Elmer was born February 6, 1915, in rural Orange City, the son of Eise and Johanna (De Vries) Wiersema. He was raised north of Orange City.
On April 7,1936, he married Jeanetta Kreykes at Orange City. They farmed at Middleburg, Sioux Center, and Orange City. He was also a carpenter. In 1968, they moved into Orange City where he was employed by the city street department. He also did much yard work for many people. Mrs. Wiersema died November 1, 1990, at Orange City.
In later years Elmer became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home and Park View Cottage, both in Orange City. In May, he transferred to the Heritage House. Mr. Wiersema was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he was funeral usher chairman for many years. He was a former member of the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, serving as a deacon on the consistory.
Mr. and Mrs. Wiersema were faithful visitors of shut-ins. He enjoyed woodworking and visiting with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Ivan and Darlene Wiersema of Cherokee; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Dale Wurpts of Orange City; a son-in-law and his wife, Larry and Lois Heemstra of Primghar; 14 grandchildren, Jerry Heemstra and his wife, Janet; Dennis Heemstra and his wife, Lori; Gregory Heemstra and his wife, Pat; Brian Wurpts; Timothy Wurpts and his fianc?, Alexandra Chambers; Kim Wurpts and her fianc?, Jeremy Kappenman; Kristi and her husband, Felix Avila; Jeremy Wiersema and his wife, Amanda; Jennifer and her husband, Keith Probst; Jaylene and her husband, James De Vos; Jerad DeVos and his wife, Terina; Heather and her husband, Cohn Youde; Arthur DeVos and his wife, Pam; and Kevin Karhoff and his wife, Kim; and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Heemstra; a grandson, Todd Heemstra; a sister, Ethel (Kraayenhrink) Vande Kamp; and a brother, John Wiersema.

Generation III

4 Jan Willem KREIJKES, born on 03-10-1828 in Rijssen, Overijssel, Netherlands, died on 10-11-1908 in Hospers, Sioux County, Iowa, USA at the age of 80. W. Kreykes died at his home in Hospers Tuesday November tenth 1908 from asthma complicated by the infimities of old age.

Deceased was eighty years and one month and seven days old - having been born in the town of Ryssen in the province of Overeisel in the Netherlands on the third day of October 1828.

He came to the United States on March eighteenth 1889 and located in Sioux county where he has since lived.

In the old country Mr. Kreykes was engaged in farming and was for many years an elder in the Christian Reformed church with which he was affiliated also at Hospers.

Deceased was married twice in the old country and his first wife is buried there. He was the father of nine children - six by his first wife and three by his second. Of these children four of the six by his first wife are dead.

The surviving ones in the order of their respective ages are J.H. Kreykes and J.S. Kreykes residing in Hospers and vicinity and J.N. Kreykes and Arie Kreykes residing in the edge of O?Brien county and Mrs. John Waanders residing in the town of Hospers.

Deceased is also survived by his second wife at Hospers and by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Brinks in the Netherlands.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Vander Mey of the Christian reformed church from the home at one o?clock and from the church at one thirty on Thursday of this week. Interment took place in the Hospers cemetery.
