2    Cornelius J. WERKMAN, born on 08-12-1836 in Zandeweer, Groningen Netherlands, died on 23-11-1923 in Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA at the age of 86, buried in Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA. CORNELIUS WORKMAN passed away Friday evening in the home of his daughter Mrs. Peter Wiersema, 513 West Main street, after an illness which had confined him to since about fair time and to his bed for the last two weeks.

During his illness his children, relatives and dozens of friends have realized the seriousness of his condition so the news of his death was not expected. His age, past 86 years, made it harder to obtain results in the treatment of his case and he gradually failed. His was the second death in Morrison within twenty four hours well along in their eighties, David R, Moulton, 88, living on the same street, and comparatively a neighbor having died the previous evening.

Mr. Workman was a gentleman whom was a pleasure to know. He was one of those who seemed to know how to grow old gracefully, and his association with those who were many years his junior and the way he entered into their pleasures, won for him the affectionate title of "Pappy," which was one he seemed to enjoy.

It was one of Mr. Workman's characteristics that he enjoyed action and good natured humor. When in the presence of those who might wish to treat him with dignity becoming his years, he was one to do something toward starting some fun. He expected the others to "come back" at him, and the more they did it, the better it pleased him. It was this great characteristic which made him a great favorite among the younger people who knew him.

Born in Groengin, Holland, December 8, 1836, he was married there to Helen Housenga, the two coming to the country and settling at Fulton in 1866. They remained there until 1893, or about that time, when they moved to a farm a short distance east of Union Grove Station. In 1908 Mr. Workman and his wife moved to Morrison, the latter passing away March 8, 1910.

Seven children were born to this couple, all surviving except one, Jacob who died Aug, 10, 1910. The ones who mourn the loss of their father are the three daughters, Mrs. Peter Wiersema and Mrs. C.A. Renkes of Morrison, Mrs. Will Dorenbos of Albany, and his three sons, John of Garden Plain, Lewis of Mt. Pleasant, and Will of Union Grove. None of Mr.Workman's brothers or sisters are living.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon from the Wiersema home at 513 West Main street at 1:30 o'clock, and half an hour later at the Reformed Church, Rev. Benj. Hoffman officiating. Burial was made in Grove Hill cemetery, Morrison.

3    Ellen (Aaltje) HUIZINGE, born on 16-01-1842 in Usquert, Groningen, Netherlands, died on 08-03-1910 in Whiteside County, Illinois, USA at the age of 68, buried in Morrison, Whiteside County, Illinois, USA. MRS. CORNELIUS WORKMAN departed this life at her home on West Main Street at 3 o'clock Tuesday morning. The deceased has been ailing for the past year.

Alice Housenga was born in Holland, January 16, 1842. She was united in marriage to Cornelius Workman in 1861. They resided in Holland until two years later when they came to the United States and settled in Fulton, ILL. Later they removed to Union Grove township, where they resided until four years ago, when they moved to this city.

Her loss is mourned by a large circle of friends and relatives residing in Morrison and in the neighborhoods where she formally resided for she was of that disposition that made her friends with every person she came in contact.

Besides her husband, she is survived by seven children: Mrs. Peter Wiersema, Union Grove; Jacob Workman, Union Grove; Lewis Workman, Fulton; John Workman, Garden Plain; Mrs. Claus Renkes, Morrison; Mrs. William Dornbush, Fulton, and William Workman, Mt. Pleasant township. She became a member of the Dutch Reformed church in early life and has always been a regular attendant at the church services.

The funeral services of Mrs. Cornelius Workman will be held at the house on West Main street at 1:30 and at the Reformed church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Rev. M.E. Brookstra will officiate. Interment will be in Grove Hill cemetery.
